چکیده

We present observations of the spiral galaxy NGC 7331 using the Sub-millimetre Common User Bolometer Array (SCUBA) on the James Clark Maxwell Telescope. We have detected a dust ring of 45 arcsec radius (3.3 kpc) at wavelengths of 450 and 850-μm. The dust ring is in good correspondence with other observations of the ring in the mid-infrared (MIR), CO and radio-continuum, suggesting that the observed dust is associated with the molecular gas and star formation. A B-K colour map shows an analogous ring structure with an asymmetry about the major axis, consistent with the extinction being produced by a dust ring. The derived temperature of the dust lies between 16 and 31 K and the gas-to-dust ratio between 150 and 570, depending on the assumed dust emission efficiency index (β =1.5 or 2.).

Ja n 19 98 ISOCAM Mid - Infrared Imaging of the Quiescent Spiral Galaxy NGC

1 Based on observations made with ISO, an ESA project with instruments funded by ESA Member States and with the participation of ISAS and NASA. ABSTRACT Using the mid-infrared camera (ISOCAM) on the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO), the Sb LINER galaxy NGC 7331 has been imaged in two broadband and four narrowband filters between 6.75 and 15 µm. These maps show a prominent circumnuclear ring of ...

SCUBA Observations of the Elliptical Galaxy NGC 4374

We present SCUBA imaging and photometry of the elliptical galaxy NGC 4374. The imaging observations are used to examine the spatial distribution of thermal emission from dust and the radio to infrared continuum spectrum. In the SCUBA 850μm image, the galaxy is found to be a point source, constraining the emission to less than 15 (1.5 kpc for a distance of 20.74 Mpc). The simplest interpretation...

Axisymmetrical Gas Inflow in the Central Region of NGC 7331

New Integral Field Spectroscopy of the central region of NGC 7331 reveals strong Hα emission in the well-known CO and HI ring of NGC 7331. The [NII]/Hα ratio indicates that a large scale stellar formation process is taken place at the ring in agreement with previous hypothesis about the exhaustion of gas in the inner to the ring region. The dynamics of stars and gas are not coupled. There is a ...

Mid-infrared Irs Spectroscopy of Ngc 7331: a First Look at the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (sings) Legacy

The nearby spiral galaxy NGC 7331 was spectrally mapped from 5 to 38 m using all modules of Spitzer’s Infrared Spectrograph (IRS). A strong new dust emission feature, presumed due to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, was discovered at 17.1 m. The feature’s intensity is nearly half that of the ubiquitous 11.3 m band. The 7–14 m spectral maps revealed significant variation in the 7.7 and 11.3 m P...

Mid-infrared Irs Spectroscopy of Ngc 7331: a First Look at the Sings Legacy

The nearby spiral galaxy NGC 7331 was spectrally mapped from 5–38μm using all modules of Spitzer ’s IRS spectrograph. A strong new dust emission feature, presumed due to PAHs, was discovered at 17.1μm. The feature’s intensity is nearly half that of the ubiquitous 11.3μm band. The 7–14μm spectral maps revealed significant variation in the 7.7 and 11.3μm PAH features between the stellar ring and ...
